5-10mW Modification for Model EL5

Step 1.

First you will need to gently separate the laser module from the main pointer body.  There a several ways to attempt this.  Gentle heat applied, a rocking motion in all directions and lastly wrap plastic electrical tape on both halves to give you better grip to slowly pull them apart.  To reassemble simply use a dab of super glue and make sure to slide the module in place so the button is lined up.

 Step 2.

Next you will notice the module, inspect it, learn it.  Make sure you do not try to perform this modification near static electricity as it may damage the components.

Step 3.
  
Next you will need to peel the adhesive padding away from the back side of the circuit board, do this carefully.  This will expose the small device called a potentiometer, it looks like a screw with an + in the center.

Step 4.

For this last step you will need a small jewelers screwdriver to turn the potentiometer.  Do this carefully and do not push too hard when turning.  You will need to locate the flat side on the turning part of the potentiometer, it will look like a circle with a flat side.  With the laser module facing, "Beam Output Left", you will want the flat side of the circle to your lower left as seen in the picture below.  You can lower the brightness by slowly turning the circle clockwise.

This concludes the modification steps for raising the power on your EL5 Green Laser Pointer.  It is not recommended that you try this modification as it will void your warranty and possible make your laser too powerful, thus it may break certain laws or regulations making it hazardous.  It may even burn skin or potentially cause fires.  Use caution.

**  Batteries included within Cont. United States, Canada and United Kingdom ONLY, other countries will not receive batteries due to export laws.  Duracel, Energizer or other comparable brand may be substituted without prior notice.  Warranty only covers laser if used with Alkaline AAA batteries ONLY, do not use lithium ion or rechargeable batteries.  Do not point beam into eyes, at airplanes or other flying aircraft, do not point beam at drivers of motor vehicles or other automobiles.  These lasers are strong and may cause permanent blindness or eye damage.  NOT FOR CHILDREN without supervision.

* Modifying the laser pointer in any way or removing the warning / spec label will void the warranty.  If you attempt to modify or remove the label and send it back as defective we will return it to you as is and void your warranty.  If you receive a defective laser pointer that does not work, do not attempt to open it, doing so will void the warranty.  Please email or call us to obtain authorization to return the unit back in the mail or by UPS ground.  Upon receipt we will inspect the laser and verify it is defective at which time we will either replace, repair or refund your money for the cost of the laser pointer, our choice.
